I can say that 2013 has been an amazing year for me and my family. We had ups, downs, tons of transition and loads of fun.
We kicked off the New Year in our pj’s and had to set the alarm for 11:55pm so we could catch the ball drop. I think it was a sign of our exhausting year to come. In January, I celebrated 4 years of blogging. I really can’t believe this hobby of mine has become such a big part of my life! My favorite look of the month included Pantone’s color of the year.
February was a whirlwind. We found out we could potentially be moving to Charlotte and it sent my head spinning. I got crafty and came up with some of my favorite DIY’s, like clean Chocolate muffins and my DIY Maxi Skirt. I wore heels that were entirely too dangerous for a mom and loved every second of it.
In March, I went to Blissdom, made an Easter Centerpiece that made me a little proud of my resourcefulness, wore some spring-y colors and continued to work on my overall fitness.
April brought me finally perfecting turning my favorite Crab Cakes into a clean recipe, my sweet big boy turning 5 with his Ninja Turtle party and my second half marathon. My favorite look of the month included a DIY shirt that cost me $8 instead of $220.
My favorite look in May was this feather filled one. We to New York for our friend’s wedding and I made some sparkly monogrammed bottles for the wedding morning breakfast. I got up on my high horse for a bit and called bull on the mommy wars.
June was a crazy month. I admitted that I’m not perfect, was able to break the news that we were, indeed, moving to Charlotte and went on a Carnival cruise. Neon and floral made up my favorite look of the month.
July started the crazy for the year. We bought a house, lived in a hotel for a week when the hubs started his new job and vacationed at the beach. It was a tough month, but I decided to find the good and be grateful. My favorite look of the month was also one of my last at our old house.
We were still at the beach in early August while negotiating the sell of our Virginia house, moved into our temporary apartment in Charlotte, added clothing to my boutique, Molly Suzanne, and wore the craziest pants ever (says the hubs). The biggest thing of the month, though, was my big boy starting school. There were lots of grown up tears and plenty of kid smiles. He even documented his first day.
In September, I made summer dresses last through fall, wore my new favorite heels, created some clean Pumpkin Oat Balls and opened up about my struggles with the whole moving transition. We finished a chapter in our lives when the sale of our first home was finalized. So bittersweet!
I discovered in October, that mothering boys isn’t for the faint of heart, ran my first race with Cooper, got really into the school mom thing with Halloween classmate gifts and actually got a little dressed up for a date night.
My baby turned 2 in November and we celebrated with an Oh Two-dles Mickey party. The hubs and I went to a black tie charity event (you can read about the charity here!), I shared my favorite breakfast and had the most amazing date night with a 5 year old. We traveled back to DC for Thanksgiving and found out that our new house was going to be ready before Christmas!
In December, we decided to decorate our apartment for Christmas, even though we’d be moving all the stuff to our house, celebrated our 8th Anniversary and I ran my first 10k. I wore some of my favorite looks ever, including a big red skirt, tons of sequins and even some pattern mixing. The best part of the month, was closing on our house the 20th, followed by a special Christmas in our new house! My family came for a couple days, followed by heading to New York, where we will ring in the New Year.
This year has taught me a lot and held so many special moments. I can’t wait to see what 2014 holds!
Wishing you and yours the happiest New Year!
