While my child dumps boxes of bisquick all over a hotel room,
Colors on window sills,
And eats M&Ms I left on the coffee table the night before.
I’ve been getting up when Coop does in the morning and jumping in the shower before we go to breakfast. I turn cartoons on for him in the bedroom, so if I peek out the curtain, I can see him in the bed.
But he is 2. And doesn’t stay in the bed.
Then I get out and catastrophe has occurred.
Or I wait until nap time. But then I’m gross all morning.
And I can’t go anywhere with sprikly legs.
What am I supposed to do?
Please don’t tell me to wake up before him, cause I just might die.

Well… in about a week, you'll be in your NEW house, all unpacked, and he can either, be locked in the bathroom with you(what I do to Claire) or have a favorite cartoon and lots of toys and maybe he won't bother the rest?
Linds says
oh man, if you find the answer out please let me know. People tell me I can lock Brayden in the bathroom with me and I just laugh. The kid would eat toilet paper, shove tampons up his nose, splash around in the toilet, and Lord knows what else.

I'm always up before my kids because I work, so I luckily don't have to figure this stuff out anymore. BUT – when I was a SAHM I had to find a lot of things to keep them occupied and make my shower as fast as humanly possible. 🙂

I shower at night, after my kids are in bed! I don't like going to bed dirty, lol! It works quite well for me, because I get to sleep in! 😉
Alicia says
oh man…i hate to say it…but i have to wake up early now to shower before all the kids are up. or like you said, i have to wait til nap time and half of my day is gone! but trust me, i know exactly what you're going through!! story of a mom's life, lol!!
Melaina25 says
How about showering the night before? You can style your hair the next morning quickly with a round brush or flat iron.

I usually shower around 9 or so when Tyler is watching Sprout in our bedroom, which is linked to our bathroom. He typically stays in the bedroom and I make sure he has water and snacks. I lock the office door and make sure there is nothing dangerous or harmful sitting out. He is pretty good about staying in the room. Sometimes I just shower during nap time though. 🙂 When you have a house vs hotel room it will be a little easier!

I wrote a post kind of like this about a week or so ago!! Please let us all know when you figure it out!
My little girl is almost 13 months old. We took the play pen down because she screams bloody murder when we put her in it. She does the same when I put her in the Jumperoo (that used to be what I did with her when I showered) but it doesn't work now.
So, lately, I have been putting the baby gate up and keeping her in the bathroom with me. She (sometimes) tries to climb in with me fully clothed….
I just make sure the toilet paper is put up, plugs are covered, tampons are put up, bring some toys in there with us, and she just plays and looks at herself in the full length mirror. It seems to be working for right now…
Hope you figure something out to work for y'all.

At night. I know it kinda stinks but this is the only thing that works for me anymore. And then you can shower in peace too…which is even better! Good luck girlie.

I will have the same problem when my Cooper is older. I don't want to get up earlier and right now I hook him into his bouncy seat while I shower and bring him into the bathroom with me. I have no idea what you can do. My sis in law brings her 2 year old into the bathroom and shuts the door and gives her toys and just makes her sit and talk to her while she showers. I guess it depends on your kid? Good luck.

I don't know what I'm going to do when my youngest can climb out of her pack-n-play. It won't be long. I may just be dirty every day.

Oh Gosh, I hateeee when I don't get to shower. But it happens. More often than I'd like.
Miss M says
I get up with mine and take him to the gym with me, then he falls asleep on the way home and I shower while he naps. BUT, when he no longer naps so early? I am screwed. I totally don't remember what I did with my older daughter when she was small… Play yard and a TV show? Can he climb out?
AmberDenae says
Oh dear! I have no advice, Molly. Sorry, I'm helpless. I have no kiddies. However, I do shower at night before bed because I HATE getting up extra early and I don't do jack to my hair. I just let it wave and curl the way it wants, haha. I'm a lazy a$$, I know.
Good luck!

OOOH gosh, we're going through the same thing right now. I'll leave Maddie alone to watch one of her shows and she seems all zoned out, until the second I step foot in the shower. All hell breaks loose.
Could you distract him with food? I sit Maddie in her highchair in front of the tv with a crap ton of goldfish and it usually works. Encouraging obesity = mother of the year.

I either shower at night or very early in the morning, I also try to do it when Kayla is napping.

i seriously think about this often….how will i manage to get ready while my child is awake and i need to shower.
my nephew is 2 and i would never leave him alone to shower….haha!!! he has been known to do rather unique things when left alone. ha!
i can only imagine what coop gets into!! lol!

I don't have babies yet, but, to be honest, THIS is like my most major fear! A girl has got to feel pretty and clean to function…and a girl needs her sleep…and a girl has got to have her baby safe at the same time! Agh, what a delima!!!

Oh how I can relate! During the week since I have a part time job I get up before my lil dude. Weekends its a little rougher…I have caught my son crumpling cracker crumbs all over my floor, playing with my hair dryer or dunking things in the toilet. Lovely. But I HAVE to have my morning pick me up shower. Fortunately he has taken a liking to movies or cartoons for just enough time for me to clean up before disaster strikes.
Kristin says
Can you bring him in the bathroom with you? Bring in some toes for him to play with on the floor.
: )

I shower every other day…not sure how that makes me sound but I swear, I am clean;)
Landon wakes up around 6:30 every morning and on the days that I need to jump in the shower really quick, I'll go into his room when I first hear him, give him a couple pacifiers, his blankie, and some books. He's pretty accepting of it (which is wonderful) and will wait in his crib for me until I come back to get him. Usually about 10-15 minutes. It works for me and all I know is if I didn't get in and take the shower before he was up and running around, it wouldn't happen. 🙂
Good luck!

OMG that is hillarious! We are going through fertility stuff right now and you are giving me something to look forward to when we finally have our own! I can't wait to read more 🙂 Oh and i have no advice!
