I started making these freezer smoothie bags when I had a bunch of spinach about to go bad. I always use spinach in my shakes in the morning, but it’s a pain in the butt to keep fresh! Making these packs ahead of time has made mornings easier and allows the Hubs to make breakfast on the way out to work much faster.
It makes most sense to use really ripe fruit, but you can use any that you have.
I put 1 really ripe banana, about 1/2 cup of mixed fruit (strawberries, pineapple, whatever you have that needs to be eaten!) and then fill the sandwich sized back the rest of the way with spinach. It’s about 1.5 cups or so. Smash out all the air and freeze! You don’t have to make a ton of these at once, I just make them as I have the ingredients.
When you’re ready to eat it, add the following to make about 2 – 8oz shakes.
1 freezer pack
1/2 cup greek yogurt
1 scoop protein powder (My favorite is this pea protein)
1/2 cup ice
1/2 – 1 cup liquid to your desired thickness (water, juice, milk or mixture of any of those)
Blend and serve!
You’ll end up with a nutrient packed shake with about 15 grams of protein to kick off your day right and hopefully, way less waste in the produce department!

Brilliant! I have a tub of Costco spinach in the fridge right now, and I was just stressing over it going bad. So trying this!
