Happy Monday! Today is the first day of school here and we are 100% virtual. It’s a strange start to the school year, but one I honestly don’t mind a bit. I have loved having the family all together over the last few months, despite it being challenging at times!
I was homeschooled my K-12, so learning at home is no new idea to me. As I set up the home classroom, it gave me flashbacks of school with my sisters. I hope great memories are made during this time, just like what I have!
2020 Virtual Classroom
We decided that we needed a space that Callan (3rd grade), Lincoln (Pre-K4) and I can all work together in, so we converted the dining room to the classroom. I pushed the table up to the window to be a big desk and got some things to make it feel more like school. Callan telling me that he was “so excited” for school to start made me happy we made such an effort to give them their space. Cooper is starting 7th grade, so he is more independent at his desk in his room, but he likes the dining room space so much that he said he is coming to work here sometimes!
I didn’t want to make it too colorful, since it is the first room inside our front door. I ordered these inspirational prints to have a little motivation, while fitting in with the decor. I put my grandma’s quilt rack in the room with some blankets, since cozy learning is the best learning!
I filled the wine refrigerator with water bottles and seltzers and added in a basket of snacks. Most of the “decor” is just practical items that we need; glue sticks, crayons, notebooks and folders, arranged in steel buckets and trays.
I had a few goals in setting up the space:
- Excitement for coming into school
- Comfort
- Peacefulness
Giving the boys their own space and their own bucket for supplies was important to me. We also got them blue light glasses since they will be spending so much time on the computer. Just like we do normally before school, we start with the Jesus Calling devotional for kids. It really helps set our day off on the right foot.
Here are most of the things we got for our 2020 virtual classroom, in case you want to add some into your space. I also have a separate shop on Amazon with all my school supplies that I got from there!
