Healthy eating isn’t always the easiest, but I have 5 easy swaps for healthier living that make it a no brainer to stay on track!
The choices haven’t always been endless when it comes to healthy food. More and more, I’m finding that I can buy foods that make my busy life so much easier, while still feeling good about the nutrition of them. With the kids, I really try to be diligent to get packaged products that aren’t filling them up with chemicals and colors. It’s not always easy, but I’ve found a jackpot in Lucky Vitamin!
Lucky Vitamin has much more than vitamins and I was so happy to find some of my favorite healthy swaps there!
1. On-the-go Bars
We spend a lot of time on the go! It’s easy to have something packaged in my purse that I can eat knowing I’m getting good nutrition. So many packaged bars are full of lots of junk, so my swap is to eat RX Bars. My favorite is the Chocolate Sea Salt and it literally is like a treat! It’s dates, nuts and egg whites, packing in 12 grams of protein and it really fills you up.
2. Coffee Creamer
I love myself some good coffee! Coffee creamer is one of those things that I’ve gone back and forth on. I love my creamer and since I’m really good in most other areas, why not drink the creamer?! But I’ve found the Califia Farms Betterhalf creamer and it’s really good. Doesn’t taste like some of the other natural ones that make me not want the coffee anymore! Hahaha.
3. Collagen for Protein Powder
This is in the same group as coffee, because I like to add a couple scoops of collagen into mine. Natural collagen is the major protein in skin, hair and nails. As we age, your collagen decreases, causing wrinkles, dry skin and dull hair. Instead of getting protein from a protein powder (which I still do occasionally), I’ve been supplementing with the collagen powder, to give myself protein at the same time as a boost in my skin’s appearance! It’s completely tasteless and you won’t even recognize it in your coffee.
4. Rice Cakes for Bread
Lundberg Thin Stackers have changed my food game! I’ve always been a fan of rice cakes instead of bread, since I try to stick to a gluten-free diet. These particular cakes are more cracker-like and they’re delicious topped with turkey and cheese, chicken salad or guacamole!
5. Protein Pakcakes
This is one for my boys! They love pancakes, but a regular mix or homemade batch doesn’t offer much in the way of protein. My growing boys are obsessed with Kodiak Cakes and they’re delish! They happen to be partial to the Chocolate Chip variety and sometimes I get crazy and add more chips on top! The ingredient list is very clean, and the original one is only sweetened with brown sugar. The protein comes from whey, not soy, and if you make them with milk, you’re looking at 18 grams of protein in a serving!
