Do you ever stop on your way to your online destination to read any of the news stories on your homepage? After far too many hours waiting on Doctors this weekend, I came across this survey by Nurture Replenish Skincare and found it to be very interesting.
The group of women they surveyed, thought that by age 59, women shouldn’t be wearing high heels, red lipstick, tight clothes or false nails.
I don’t know about you, but Christine Baranski (from one of my favorite shows, The Good Wife) is 60 and I think she looks amazing in this Zac Posen dress and red lips.
Some more of their fashion faux pas are no baseball caps or fake tan after 40 and no knee-high boots or even conservative tight tops after 45.
Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock are some good ways to prove that some of these ideas are wrong.
Yahoo Shine also suggest some looks are out much earlier than 40. Like braids. They say they’re out after your mid 20s. What?! I think not.
The other trends, that will land you on What Not to Wear if you’re over 40, would be maxi skirts, pants that say anything on the butt (guess I agree with that) and certain light, short, flimsy dresses. I sure hope maxi skirts are still in when I’m 40. Especially seeing that I live in them now.
I’ve always thought I’d wear fashionable clothes forever. My Granny was the lead in her annual nursing home’s fashion show and I sure don’t want to let her down. She rocked her high heels right next to her oxygen tank and looked amazing doing it. And red lips? Just her everyday attire.
What trends do you think become inappropriate as we age?
Brooke says
I think as long as you look classy who cares what trends you follow when you age! Juicy Couture on your butt might be the only one I think is not alright!

I agree with you, rock your look and be happy. Regardless of your age.
(And words on your butt are not appropriate at any age, IMO.)

My grandmother is in her mid 70's and can still rock a set of red lips like no other.
The one fashion rule I've always heard that I'm not sure how I feel is the length of a woman's hair: that after a certain age, you don't need a pony tail. What am I going to do w/o a pony??
Krysta says
I agree, as long as you're classy, it's okay.
Paige says
I love the Good Wife! I think Christine Baranski looks fabulous with red lips and that black dress. She rocked it!
Misty says
I think pants with stuff written on the butt are out at any age. Ew.
Most things can be worn at any age if done properly, and if you look good and can rock it.
Rachel says
I think as long as you don't wear all the trends together then you are okay. Small doses! And of course, it's all about how you rock it! Once you turn 40, your fashion sense doesn't just disappear, so as long as you know what looks good and have a good friend to tell you if something is too young, you are good to go! 🙂
