Black Tie Wear

I’m heading to a black tie charity event with the hubs in about a month and I haven’t decided what to wear. I’ve been to a couple semi-formal charity events, but not black tie. My first thought, is to wear something long and black. But, I’m undecided. I don’t want to be too boring, but I don’t necessarily want to stand out either! Here are some dresses I’ve found that I love. It’s obvious that I currently have a slight lace obsession.

What do you think? Do I have to go long, or is below the knee enough? Should I rent or buy? What would you wear?

    I love 3,6,7 and 9. Though 3 and 6 are my favs. I agree with Meg, if you will def wear it at least two more times buy otherwise rent. And so fun to get to dress up for black tie affairs!

    Oh I like number 5! Long dresses are great but shorter ones are more fun and you get to show off some FABULOUS shoes! Whatever you pick will be great. (you also may be able to wear a knee length dress again?)

    I am loving number 3 with an updo and some sparkly earrings! I would rent probably….unless you plan on reselling or wearing it again within 6 months. I find after a year I want a newer current dress anyways!

    Number 3 is my absolute favorite but if you want something shorter then number 6 is great pick. You add a jeweled or beaded belt to number 3 to give a little wow factor. I'd definitely buy because formal dresses are worth the investment if you're attending them on a somewhat regular basis.

    My faves in this order: 4,6,1,7,8,2,5,9,3. I'm not sure why I felt compelled to give you an order but they are all really pretty dresses. I can see why you are having such a hard time deciding!

    I don't like to repeat dresses for events, so I think you should rent! I had two really good experiences renting with Rent the Runway this summer.

    I think there's definitely a favorite, 3! Before I even opened the comment form that was going to be my choice. Does it come in color? I think it would be great in a deep plum. And really stunning in gold. I'm a fan of color but i like the style of it so much I'd take it in black over the other color choices. I would buy, but only because i shop so cheap renting is more. I don't typically get more than a wear or two out of formals though :(. I definitely say long, there's lots of opportunities for cocktail dresses, even just for a date! You'll look great in anything though!

    I LOVE the ASOS Gothic Prom Dress (aka #5)!! It would look amazing on you with a really fun pair of heels. I think above the knee is totally acceptable at a black tie event, especially if it's really dressy like the ASOS one. Can't wait to hear what you chose!

    I think above the knee is totally fine too, but this is a great excuse to wear something that you typically can't. I would go long with number 3!

    im obsessed with 1!!! that or 8 totally have my vote for your lovely self + hair + hot bod! i would probably buy because id wear it again on a formal night for a cruise 🙂 otherwise rent the runway is awesome, and id go that way if we didnt cruise so often!
