There are stories about baby poop up the back, on the neck and under the armpits. There are stories about poop that leaked all the way out onto the carseat that required complete stripping and washing of the cover. We’ve all had those stories. Its just par for the motherhood course, right?
Then there are stories that involve a 2 year old who I had never known to even attempt to do anything to his diaper (or to his poop for that matter) that you never forget. That scar you for life.
Once upon a time, I put my sweet Cooper down for a nap. (Oh, the glory days of napping children and 2 hours of reality TV) He napped every day, in his crib still. He hadn’t even tried to crawl out. It was magical. One day, as nap time was coming to an end, I hear the usual sweet chatting and singing. I gave him a few minutes to wake up and then headed upstairs.
What I saw was a serious diaper disaster.
The diaper lay on the floor. It was full of poo. Yes, he poopied in his diaper, but took it off and had tossed it overboard. But not before he had taken a couple handfuls out, spread them on every.single.surface of the crib, himself and the walls. My sweet 2-month-lived-in walls.
I think I froze for a year or so, not even knowing where to possibly begin. Anything I touched would get poo on me. Thank goodness I’m a nurse, and I keep gloves stocked up for emergencies. This was a true emergency. I stripped everything. I Cloroxed everything. I bathed my sweet, little, poop covered man about 53 times. We aired the nursery out for days to get rid of the awful smell.
Pretty soon after that, we started potty training. I never wanted to deal with that again!
We all just have to face the fact that if there are diapers, it’s inevitable that there will be diaper rashes. Every babe has them, some just way more often. I haven’t had to deal with any really bad rash cases with little man #2, but #1 had me buying several different creams and doing lots of “airing out”. (AKA, let’s ruin all our carpets and furniture for the sake of this diaper rash.)
I think Cooper just had really sensitive skin because I could never really pinpoint a specific thing that caused the rash. All I knew is that it looked so painful, and he was quite the cranky baby when it happened.
My most favorite, and still #1 go-to cream, is Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. I started buying it because I just loved the blunt, funny name. I keep buying it because it works amazingly well. It’s been the only rash cream I’ve bought with Callan. I am confident that it works well and is gentle enough to not cause more reactions.
The All Natural Butt Paste is formulated to protect chafed skin and helps seal out wetness. It soothing ointment is made with beeswax to help heal irritated bottoms.
The other is a Maximum Strength version. It is made with 40% Zinc Oxide to treat extreme diaper rash.
They are available in a variety of sizes including their original formula in a handy travel size.

My little one has super sensitive skin, so if I'm not all over the diaper changes she gets a rash very quickly.

My daughter gets diaper rash on occasion. Besides barrier creams, I've heard it's a good idea to let babies play without a diaper on so that their skin is exposed to the air.

When my children were small, they suffered from diaper rash once in a while. I changed them often, and always use desitin or vaseline.

I'm expecting my first (little girl) in October and the Cooper diaper overboard story just scared the crap out of me! Whoa-I need butt paste!
Lexie Loo, Lily Boo, and Dylan Too! says
Lexie used to get the worst diaper rash. I would have to take off her diaper and let her walk around naked. I cleaned my floors often during that time!
Tales of a young mamma says
Oh gosh this happened to us when we were living in Sweden for a semester when Jasper was 20 months. I walked in after nap to find jasper, his crib and the WALLPAPERED walls of the apartment we were renting covered in poo. Probably the best part of it was that the laundry room was 5 floors below us and the way it works there is that you sign up for a time (either the first half of the day or the second half the day) to do laundry and our time wasn't for another two days, so we definitely had sheets full of sh*t sitting out on our balcony for two days until we could use the laundry room.

My little man rarely gets a diaper rash, but when he does, it's a Butt Paste to the rescue! Unfortunately, our tube has gone missing, so we've had to use a different brand, just because we have it. Plain and simple, it sucks. We need to buy a new tube asap.
