Tis the season for family pictures! I adore getting nice, coordinated pictures together every year. Some years turn out better than others, but in my 13 years of parenting, I’ve learned a thing or two about making them a success. Here’s my family picture tips and our outfits from this year!
- Coordinate your outfits. We went with a black and neutral theme for pictures this year. I wanted something that didn’t scream Christmas and colors that would be good framed in our new house. I also worked a lot with the boys to find outfits they really felt comfortable in. I’ve been guilty of putting them in a good looking outfit, but one they didn’t love and mercy it showed! They wore their fave sneakers and their comfy joggers made them feel more comfortable. I actually bought very little for the pictures and they ended up in a bunch of favorite pieces.
- Plan for a time when your kids are happiest. This means skip nap time and mealtime or you might have a revolt on your hands! I don’t care how gorgeous the sunset is, if your kid is moody at sunset, you are playing with fire! Now, this will not guarantee good behavior, so see the next point.
- Bring bribery. Fruit snacks are a favorite of mine. They don’t take long to chew, don’t get all over their faces, or melt in your hands!
- Do a dress rehearsal. This year I realized I had pulled out the wrong child’s black pants and it was a last minute dash to find the right pair. If you’re wearing pieces you own and know fit, just make sure you have all the pieces you need in one spot!
Here are the outfits we wore for our family pictures this year. It’s an easy color scheme to out together because you can bring in different shades of neutral. I’m really digging the camel color this season, too!
