Guest Post: Mandy from House of Rose Blog

I met the sweet Mandy of House of Rose Blog at Blissdom this year. I was instantly swooning over her colbalt skinnies and had a bit of a celebrity crush moment when I actually got to introduce myself. Hi, I’m Mandy and I write over at House of Rose Blog.

I’m a boy mom, fountain coke lover, diy wannabe who loves to decorate! Lucky for me I have a dad who can make any Pinterest project a reality! For the last 2 years we’ve been doing project after project. Feel free to check out our home tour to see some of the amazing Pinterest projects brought to life {thank you dad}. We are currently adopting our 4th child from the Philippines and I quit my full time job to blog. You can read more about how I did that on a site that my husband and I have called Dollars and Roses.

1. What inspired you to start a blog? My husband had been blogging for a few months in the personal finance niche, and he kept encouraging me to start a family blog. I initially started my blog as an online “baby book”. I wanted a way to record our memories so that we could look back and remember when our children were small. I actually have my blog printed in a book once a year.

2. What is your favorite aspect about being part of the blogging community? Immediate advice for anything you need! Ha! Honestly, the friendships that I have built through the blogging community have been some of the greatest friendships! You get to connect with other mothers who are your age and going through similar things. I love the support that I get from other women.

3. What is your favorite topic to blog about? My favorite topic to write about is decorating! I never knew I had such a love for decorating and diy! We built our home over 2.5 years ago, and I have had my dad working on Pinterest inspired projects ever since! I am about to run out of wall space! I am almost to the point where I may need to start hitting up my friends to let me decorate their homes. Ha!

4. What is the hardest part about being a mom blogger? Being judged by others who don’t really know you. Blogs are only a tidbit of your life. Sometimes you will get people who are down right hateful. I have learned to just ignore these types of people. I use to let it bother me, but it honestly doesn’t even make me bat an eye now. I focus on the positive!

5. What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is wanting to start a blog? Be YOURSELF! Don’t focus on your traffic or how you can make money or why you aren’t getting enough comments. Write from your heart and be consistent. Building a blog takes time. Eventually people will come, but it doesn’t happen overnight.
