As school starts and summer ends, I think we all get a sense of sadness that the classic travel season is coming to an end. Over the last several years, we’ve decided to do late summer travel to the beach, to combat those blues! You can sneak away for a weekend, or even pull the kids out of school for a couple of days to enjoy the peacefulness of the beach in late summer. Last year, we did a beach trip with The Hubs family and it started a new tradition! We’re going late again this year because the costs, the nice temperatures and the low crowds are just too hard to pass up!
Our favorite quick trip, is to Hilton Head, South Carolina. It’s even close enough that we can just do a weekend, if we want. My first stop to find a great place is always Vrbo! (Which is now called ver-bo, by the way!) You can literally find any type of place you want.
When we started planning the trip with The Hubs family, I created one of Vrbo’s Trip Boards! I currently have one for next year’s Hilton Head beach trip as well as one for an upcoming baseball tournament. You can invite friends and family to add to the board as well as leave comments for each other. It takes the long text strings and phone calls out of the equation and let’s everyone plan at their convenience, while allowing notifications on the app, so you don’t miss anything!
5 Pros to Home Renting for Vacation
Save costs on meals by cooking at home
Even if you just make breakfast and lunch at the house and go out for dinner, you will save quite a bit!
Gives space to hang out with family and friends
When we’ve stayed at a hotel with friends or family, we all end up in the lobby or a common outdoor space. A house allows
Separate space for kids
This is especially important with our little ones who go to bed before everyone else! It’s so nice to put the babies and toddlers to sleep, then be able to still hang out with your family and friends.
Washer and Dryer
I think every house/condo we’ve rented has had a washer and dryer. I’m not sure I’ve ever traveled where this didn’t come in handy!
Affordability
I think often people get concerned about costs when renting a large home. Truth is, it often comes out to LESS than a hotel, especially when splitting it with others! If you’re looking at going on a late summer trip, the savings are even greater. It’s the perfect time to travel!
