I can’t write this Memorial Day weekend recap without thanking the very reason we have it! To the ones who gave their very lives for our freedom and to the families they left behind, there will never be enough thanks. I think now, more than ever, I’m so grateful for brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to stand up and defend our country!
I’ll be honest, I was skeptical going into this weekend. Memorial Day back in Charlotte meant tons of fun with our friends, boating, late nights on neighbors decks, pool meetups and overall an amazing kickoff to Summer. I wasn’t sure how being in Michigan would stand up to that, but it sure did show off. I’m trying not to compare one place to another, just live in the moment and appreciate this place for all the good it offers. And it truly does offer a lot!
Friday we started the morning off with a breakfast date, then headed south to a Senior PGA event. The Hubs work is the sponsor of it and they really did an impressive job. It was chilly and raining, but the VIP tent and a couple cocktails made it just fine. Cooper was the only one of the boys that was interested, so we grabbed him out of school early to come with us.
My Outfit: Linen Ruffle Skort | Tank | Denim Jacket | Slides | Crossbody Bag
Friday night we went to some friends house for a fire. There was plenty of fun, meeting new friends and s’mores. I made this churro Chex mix (skipped the churro cereal and caramel bites) and it was a huge hit!
Saturday morning, Lincoln was the only one that didn’t sleep at our friends house and he requested a dad, mom and Linc brunch. We rode our bikes to breakfast before heading back to our friends for some more fun in the sun!
Our friends live on an inland lake that we didn’t even know existed until recently! We took to the lake for some surfing, which was SO fun. I was nervous since I haven’t been out in awhile, but it came back just like riding a bike!
Cooper and his friends went golfing (Cooper’s first tine ever playing!) and they all did a lot of fishing. We did a potluck style dinner with lots of friends and stayed for fireworks and more late night fires and fun.
We had a couple of the boys friends come back with us for the night and we had church and donuts Sunday morning. I made a batch of my Summer Pasta Salad and we went to a neighborhood BBQ with some of Lincoln’s classmates who live near us. We have met some of the nicest people here in Michigan!
After sipping wine until midnight with our next door neighbors, I decided I needed to try on all the everything that had been delivered that day, including this gorgeous dress! (I guess my complete disaster closet shows I had no time for anything but fun all weekend!)
Monday morning was kicked off with a MURPH in my neighbors garage. Oh my mercy, I haven’t worked that hard in awhile! 1 mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats and finished with a 1 mile run. It was hard but so good! The second run, I ran passed my house and grabbed us all one of my patriotic Jell-O shots for when we finished!
Back at home, I made a simple little Chex mix with pretzels, plain popcorn, drizzled melted almond bark and sprinkles. It was a hit for our afternoon pool party!
I wore this new ruffle shoulder bikini that I just got in the mail. It is super adjustable, comes in 4 colors and has an additional 15% off coupon today, making it under $25. I sized up 1 based on reviews and it fits great.
The Hubs and I took a sunset walk to end a great weekend. We found ourselves so grateful for the friendships we’ve made here and the place God has landed us. Going into this last week of school before we enjoy an awesome Summer in southwest Michigan!
