I know, I know. I can’t shut up about Blissdom. I’m sorry to y’all who read this and don’t have a clue why. Blissdom is a blog conference. {insert muffled nerd comments} A blog conference that brings together thousands of women (and a few brave men) for a weekend of learning, conversation and fun. Today, they asked us to tell our Blissdom story. You can see all the link-ups here. For now, here’s mine.
My first Blissdom was in 2011. I was terrified. I had met one of my roommates, but not the other 2. I was quiet and nervous to get into a huge room full of big deal ladies that were confident and amazing. At the opening session, they played a video of Katy Perry’s Firework, a song that normally makes me cringe, and not in a good way. But not this time.
This time I cried. It was an overwhelming feeling of excitement and energy. All these like hearted women were together to celebrate and grow our passion. A passion that was being encouraged and supported by the conference.
I left Blissdom that year a different person. Excited to better myself, my blog and my life. With a purse full of business cards, I connected with brands, bloggers and amazing friends. Friends that have been to my house, have met my family and are people I talk to on a daily basis.
Blissdom 2012 was a little different, since I took my 3 month old. I had the same roommates, but I was still nervous. I was determined to be less timid. To introduce myself to anyone I wanted to, without being completely terrified. And I did just that.
I went to sessions that I wanted to, even though it meant breaking away from my comfortable circle of friends. And it was okay. I got so much out of the conference. I learned a lot more about the business side of things, about SEO and things that just aren’t easy to learn when simply reading them online.
I left again with a new drive, much inspired by Jon Acuff and his amazing sessions. Once again, I had more business cards than I knew what to do with, tons of connections and plenty of opportunity. I realized my blog was becoming a much bigger part of my life than I ever anticipated it to. And I was happy about it.
Blissdom 2013 is just 7 weeks away. This year, I took a huge leap of faith and will be serving as a Fashion/Beauty community leader, alongside Kate of The Small Things Blog. I am so honored to be able to work with the fabulous people of Blissdom and some women that I really admire.
I don’t sing Blissdom’s praises because just because I was in a flash mob with Chris Mann. Or because I got to touch Joe Jonas or have my picture taken with Rascal Flatts. Those are just some really awesome perks.
Blissdom changed the way I blog. The way I prioritize. It’s helped me turn my passions into a business and has brought me some of my best friends. I don’t foresee a year that I won’t fill my suitcase with sparkly clothing and head to Blissdom.
