Tips for how we’ve handled crowds and maximized our time to vacation while social distancing!
It’s admittedly crowded here at the beach in Florida. We come here as often as we can carve out the time and with everyone working from home right now, it was a no brainer to come back here this summer. (You can read all about our 30A trip earlier in the year here) We knew the crowds would be heavy and decided that if all we do is sit on the deck and hear the ocean waves, that it would be a good time! We’ve been pleasantly surprised with how much we’ve been able to do, while still keeping a distance from others. Here are some tips for making a vacation safer right now!
Vacation While Social Distancing
Stay Smart
This one is easy for us because we stay in a family member’s house that isn’t a rental. I do suggest staying somewhere that is a house vs a hotel. There is more space for everyone to spread out if you end up spending more time inside than you’d like. If you can have a balcony or see the ocean, even better!
Cook or Eat Take-Out
Staying in a house with a kitchen makes it much easier to keep a distance from people. We’ve made dinner here nearly night, minus a night of pizza take-out and one day where we ate burgers outside at a grab and go place. We’ve still enjoyed fresh fish from the local market a couple times!
Plan Your Beach Time
We noticed quickly when we got here that the mornings are pretty darn empty around the beach and pool. Since we’re up early anyway and it’s plenty hot here to get an early start, we’ve been doing our beach and pool time from about 9 to 11 or 12. Then we head up to the house while the crowds are high. We’ve been going back to the beach to take a walk or just play around sunset.
Ride Bikes
We got bikes again this trip from Rent Gear Here. We’re having so much fun riding around and exploring! Bikes are a great way to get out and enjoy the area without being right on top of anyone.
I’m really glad that we made the decision to come down here! Masks are required everywhere I’ve been (grocery store, seafood market) and I haven’t felt uncomfortable at all. The memories we’ve added to our bank have been really wonderful and I’m so glad to have this relaxation time before school starts!
