Sporting events are such a fun happening around here. As a boy mom, sports are a massive part of our family time. We love watching games together and making a big game a fun family event. I try hard to feed my family foods that are good for them, but sometimes a special events call for special food. One of my favorite ways of cooking is to make foods a little more nutritious while still being delicious. That’s what I’ve done to the classic buffalo chicken dip, and it’s a hit here!
When I throw a sports party, I go for some classics with a twist and include lots of veggies.
Here’s our most recent party menu:

I think the make your own pitas are a little more fun than a classic sandwich tray. I used peppered turkey and Borden® Cheese Gouda Slices along with lettuce and tomato. I prefer letting people build their own; then they don’t get soggy or wasted if they’re not all eaten. And besides, it’s way more fun!
Here’s a tip for you. If you’re serving sweets at your party but are trying to pay attention to what you eat, put them in a different room! The kids at the party enjoy having the treats, but I don’t want them in front of me all game. I keep the main food on the kitchen island, where everyone seems to congregate. Then in the dining room, I can put desserts so they don’t tempt people. I do love these strawberry footballs for a sweet treat with way less guilt. I just dip the strawberries into melted chocolate and use a small squirt bottle to squeeze the white melted chocolate designs on. They’re relatively simple and everyone loves them!
Since I’m a big cooking fan, nothing makes me happier in the kitchen than my boys helping me out. I want them to grow up with fond memories of the times we spent cooking together, as well as being confident in their cooking skills as adults. I think the key to that is making it fun! One of the ways I show my love for my family is through cooking for them, and I love that my kids are appreciative and interested in doing it with me. They helped me add some love in the form of Borden® Cheese to the top of my yummy chicken dip!
Lighter Buffalo Chicken Dip
1 cup plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
2 cups Borden® Cheese Cheddar Jack Shreds (or any flavor variety you prefer. I found tons of variety at Lowes foods!)
1 12oz can chicken (or 12 ounces cooked chicken breasts, shredded)
1/2 cup hot sauce
2 tsp dried onion
2 Tbsp parsley
2 tsp garlic powder
In a small bowl, mix all ingredients, reserving 1/2 cup of the cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Top with reserved cheese and place back in the oven for 10 minutes.
By eliminating some of the additional cheese and dressings, but adding in a power punch of protein with the Greek yogurt, this dip is a total winner. And who can resist that melty goodness of cheese?
I used Borden® Cheese for this recipe and for my pita bar. I found mine at Lowes Foods, in the section with all the other cheeses! You can find it near you using this store locator.
Do you get your kids involved when you are cooking? What is your favorite game watching food to make?
